Short answer
This builder turns plain form fields into X search operators (from:, to:, since:, until:, min_faves:, filter:replies and others), shows you the exact query and opens it at x.com/search. It runs in your browser and never contacts X itself.
Key takeaways
- Several accounts in one field become an OR group, so "@alice @bob" searches both.
- The "to date" is inclusive here; the builder adds a day because X's until: operator stops before the date you give it.
- X only shows search results to signed-in users, so sign in on x.com first.
- The Latest tab is the chronological view, which is the one to use for checking replies and mentions.
How do I use the search builder?
Type into any field and the query box writes the X operators for you.
- Add words in the top group. "All of these words" is the plain search; the other fields add an exact phrase, an OR group or exclusions.
- Add accounts if you only want posts from, to or mentioning certain people. Separate several handles with spaces or commas.
- Pick post types: replies or no replies, links, images, video, quote posts.
- Set minimum likes, reposts or replies to skip low-engagement noise, and a date range if you're looking for something specific.
- Choose the results tab and press Search on X.
You can edit the query box directly before opening it. Changing a form field rebuilds the query from the form again.
What does each field turn into?
Each field maps to one documented X search operator, shown in the table below.
| Field | Operator it writes | Example |
|---|---|---|
| All of these words | the words as typed | troll bridge |
| Exact phrase | quotes | "under the bridge" |
| Any of these words | OR group | (troll OR trolls) |
| None of these words | minus sign | -giveaway |
| Hashtags | OR group of hashtags | (#moderation OR #safety) |
| Language | lang: |
lang:en |
| From / to / mentioning | from: to: @ |
(from:alice OR from:bob) |
| Leave out posts from | -from: |
-from:spam_bot |
| Only accounts I follow | filter:follows |
|
| Only verified | filter:verified |
|
| Replies | filter:replies or -filter:replies |
|
| Links | filter:links or -filter:links |
|
| Media | filter:media, filter:images, filter:videos, -filter:media |
|
| Quote posts | filter:quote |
|
| Link contains | url: |
url:example.com |
| Minimums | min_replies: min_faves: min_retweets: |
min_faves:100 |
| Dates | since: until: |
since:2025-03-01 until:2025-03-08 |
The results tab is not an operator. It is the f= part of the x.com link: f=live for Latest, f=user for People, f=media for Media and f=list for Lists. Leaving it out gives you Top.
Why does the end date look one day later?
X's until: operator is exclusive, so the builder adds one day to keep your chosen end date inside the results.
If you want everything posted during the first week of March 2025 and enter March 1 to March 7, the builder writes since:2025-03-01 until:2025-03-08. Posts from March 7 are included. X reads these dates in UTC, so posts made late in the evening in the Americas can land on the next day.
Search tips that save time
- Check what people said to an account: put the handle in "Replying to" and choose Latest. Add
-from:with the same handle to drop the account's own replies. - Find the post you half remember: use the exact phrase you recall plus
from:and a rough date range. Fewer words beats more words. - Cut the spam:
-filter:linksand amin_faves:of 5 or 10 remove most bot noise from a busy topic. - Watch a troll without engaging: the profile lookup builds one-click searches for an account's replies and mentions.
For every operator, including ones the form doesn't expose (like conversation_id: and list:), see the X search operators cheat sheet.
Questions people ask
Does X still support advanced search operators?
Yes. Operators such as from:, to:, since:, until:, min_faves:, min_retweets:, min_replies:, lang:, url: and the filter: family still work in the X search box. X has never published a complete official list, and a few operators have changed behavior over the years, so the builder sticks to the ones that work reliably.
Why does my search return nothing?
The usual causes are a "from" date after the "to" date, a misspelled username, or too many conditions at once. Remove filters one at a time until results appear. Also check that you are signed in to X, because logged-out visitors are sent to the login page.
Can I search posts from protected accounts?
Only if you follow that account. Protected posts are visible to approved followers, and X search respects that.
What is the difference between to: and @?
to:username finds replies sent to that account. @username finds any post that mentions it, including replies, quotes and ordinary posts that tag it.
Can I save a search?
Use "Copy link to this search" to keep a Twittertroll link that refills the form. On X you can also save searches from the results page while signed in.
